About Architecture: Architect's Handbook Designing for People and Place

  Standard Sizes
Architects have found that certain sizes work well for rooms with specific uses. There is a standard width for doors (3' wide) and hallways (3' wide), and a standard height for walls and ceilings. This does not always work for very tall or very short people, however, so keep your client's specific needs in mind.
