About Architecture: Architect's Handbook Designing for People and Place

  Exterior Material
When choosing an exterior material, think about how it will make the house look on the site. Do you want it to blend in or stand out? Do you want it to look traditional or modern? Also remember where your house is located, and that different materials work well in different environments.

HINT
Stone keeps out the cold and holds up well against weather and age. Wood is easy to build with and can be painted or stained different colors. Glass does not provide privacy but makes a building feel very open and lets in a lot of natural light.
